Bud Finch- Guitar and Vocals

Bud is from the Tidewater area of Virginia and has lived in Poquoson, Va. for the past 27 years. He has been blessed with a great family, wife Pat and sons Justin and Nathan. His interest in bluegrass music started in 1978 when some friends and he stumbled across a local jam session. He was hooked and before long, a new band was formed ” Swampgrass”.  In 1986 he was asked to join another group ” Just a Cut Above”, where he joined fellow Code Blue member E.T. Firth. We had good success, playing many of the same festivals Code Blue plays today. After about a 10 year break from music, he coached ball teams and hauled kids from place to place. He joined Code Blue in 2001. He says the band is great, and we all have a lot of fun. Bud loves entertaining and getting to know all the bluegrass folks along the way.

Michael Beaver- Banjo and Vocals

Born in Statesville, North Carolina, he was raised listening to country and bluegrass music, and developed a love of bluegrass especially, from the great bands like Flatt and Scruggs, Don Reno, Red Smiley, The Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe and so many others. He began to learn guitar on his brothers Silvertone at the age of 14, and became so obsessed with it, that his brother hardly had time with it himself. By the time Michael was 17, he was playing with local bands as many as five nights a week. Playing the banjo was always a dream, though he didn’t own one, and as was the case with most banjo players. Earl Scruggs was his hero ! Michael married atthe age of 23, and began to raise a family. There was little time for the music, so he stopped playing for more than 20 years. At age 42, he purchased an inexpensive banjo and began to learn ,needless to say, getting it all wrong over and over. He eventually gained enough skill and confidence to begin playing with local groups and has many thanks to other musicians for all their input and tolerance. With the current members of the Code Blue Bluegrass Band, he is fortunate to be playing with guys he has admired over the years, and some of the finest musicians and singers he has known. They are not just good players, they are great people and good friends. It is truly a pleasure to be able to perform our music at many festivals and events each year, and he is very grateful to all the promoters, wonderful audiences, and great fans for all their support. Special thanks to a lifelong friend, mentor, great musician and teacher, Harlan Baumgardner!
